In an age where information is a quick Google search away and in friendly formats such as how-to video guides or step-by-step tutorials, the classic printed user manual has become somewhat of an enigma.

Homeowner manuals in particular might seem a waste of paper and time since they come in large binders and/or box files only to be stashed away, likely to never be seen again until handed down to the next home owner at the point of sale - at which point they are likely to be outdated or incomplete due to unrecorded changes to the home over the years - as such they are often referred to as ‘handover manuals’ by housebuilders. So what is the point? Is there any value or use case besides being a point-of-completion formality that is otherwise left sitting on a shelf or stored away?
