SHEDyt is Digitising the Home User Manual (Home User Guide)

Most people around the world still manage their homes and offices by relying on pen and paper, telephone calls and on-site visits. As far as we know, homeowners generally do not use technology, at least not primarily, to manage their properties – other than email, cloud-based storage services or perhaps external drives like USBs.

As such, for example, how do property occupiers gain access to the warranty details of a washing machine if they need to fix a broken handle? Most likely, it will involve following mismanaged paper trails and digging through binders of documents just to find the information necessary to start looking for possible solutions. Or someone might come in and look at the washing machine just so they can tell you what you should have already known.

Building insurance companies have advised SHEDyt that β€˜1 in 3 trips to manage properties are just to look at the issue, not to repair or resolve anything’.

Additionally, property management challenges are growing due to the increasing complexity of buildings and the advent of technology within homes. The app enables property developers to create a better experience for their purchasers, helps them organise their documentation like a HUG (Home User Guide) and connects their approved suppliers to properties they register onto it. We believe this will also provide occupiers with a platform to access, organise and share with any interested parties their home details as necessary.

With that in mind, the questions we have for homeowners and/or occupiers;

1. What other uses of digital tools can be found beyond just making managing your home(s) easier?

2. Are there any other methods people use to manage and interface their home information beyond what we have discovered? We have also heard examples of property managers using social media like Facebook or WhatsApp groups.

3. Do you have any thoughts or perspectives, with regards to improving and championing the occupier experience, that we may not have considered?
